and Expansion Survey Update
Data collection for the Douglas County Business
Retention and Expansion Survey was completed recently.
Approximately 90 companies participated in the study by completing an
extensive questionnaire. The data collected will be analyzed by
the Wisconsin Department of Commerce.
A local steering committee will prepare a set of recommendations
based on the data analysis. Organizations represented on the
steering committee include: The Development Association, Superior Water
Light & Power, Dahlberg Light & Power, East Central Energy, the Superior
BID, the City of Superior, Douglas County, The Village of Poplar, the
Village of Lake Nebagamon, the Village of Solon Springs, The Chamber,

and WITC. Steering committee members visited business owners to
collect the questionnaires and discuss issues of importance.
Preliminary results indicate an overall optimistic outlook on the
part of the Douglas County business community. A presentation of
the results and forthcoming recommendations will be conducted later this
fall.
Public/Private Partnership
Meeting October 15, 2008
Businesses and organizations in Superior/Douglas County are invited
to attend a meeting of the newly formed Superior/Douglas County
Public/Private Partnership project. The purpose of the project is to
ensure community preparedness for disaster threats in our community by:
1) providing businesses with the tools to assess their risks and develop
appropriate plans and 2) developing an effective system of coordinated
response and resources in times of emergency.
The meeting will be held from 1:30 - 3:00 pm at the WITC
Conference Center on October 15. The main focus of the meeting
will be to organize steering committees and to begin planning a tabletop
exercise in January.
We encourage you to take part in this worthwhile opportunity to
enhance the partnerships between the public and private sectors in
Superior. This is an excellent opportunity to ensure the safety and
