Association bulletin include:
Member Profile: WITC
Wisconsin
Indianhead Technical College (WITC) contributes to successful economic
development in the region by providing a skilled workforce to meet the
needs of the business community.
WITC’s Superior Campus is one of four schools in the district. Other
campuses include Rice Lake, Ashland and New Richmond. WITC’s
Administrative Office is located in Shell Lake. The Superior Campus is
one of the first technical college programs in Wisconsin.
Today, the WITC Superior Campus serves approximately 2,300 students with
day and evening courses in 28 programs in associate degree and one- and
two-year technical diplomas in business, health and service, personal
and community service and trade and technical. The campus also offers
related instruction for apprenticeship programs, as well as short-term
certificates in a variety of specialties. Over 93 percent of students
finishing programs get placed in jobs.
Diane Vertin, Vice President, Academic Affairs and Campus Administrator,
said WITC works closely with businesses in the community through program
advisory boards that insure students are getting state-of-the-art
training.
A recent program Vertin pointed to was a “Welding Boot Camp.” This
three-week course gave students the basics of welding and placed them in
an industry. The students are now working and going to school to finish
their training.
To better meet the needs of working adults, WITC is expanding its online
training. This fall programs in accounting, marketing and web analyst
will be offered online.
